PCC'S 30TH ANNIVERSARY VIRTUAL 5K
Like the health-focused non-profit organizations that came before us, the Primary Care Coalition saw our community's problem clearly: thousands of county residents lacked insurance and lived on salaries insufficient to access regular health care services. But we had a solution: a strong system that linked health care providers to the people they were in business to serve. Today, PCC connects thousands of the most vulnerable individuals and families to the health care system each year, in Montgomery County and beyond. Our mission is to improve the health of vulnerable individuals and families by building partnerships and strengthening system.
We help patients, we support providers, and we build systems to provide quality care and connect vital health services to our neighbors who need them most.
We're celebrating 30 years of making health happen by putting our best foot forward...literally. Join us and complete 5K your way: run, walk; alone, together; indoors, or out. Participate on your own schedule, so long as you complete the full distance between 6:00am on Black Friday (11/25) and 9:00pm on Giving Tuesday (11/29).
Get moving, in whatever way works for you. And bring your friends and family along, either as fitness buddies or sideline sponsors. Event proceeds will support health care for vulnerable individuals and families in Montgomery County and beyond.
HOW IT WORKS
A virtual 5K run/walk can be run (or walked) from any location you choose at any time during the event period (Friday, November 25th through Tuesday, November 29th). You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill at the gym or on the track. You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.
It's not a race but a journey, and we're measuring event success in the fun, friends, and funds we all bring along the way. Sign up today and start sharing event information with your friends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will I get a race T-Shirt?
A: No. Instead, you'll get a race beanie delivered to your door after the event, perfect for walks and runs in the winter weather. Plus, sizing is easier on hats.
Q: Do I have to run?
A: Absolutely not. You have to use your own two feet/prosthetics/wheelchair/etc.—whatever mechanism you use to move yourself around day to day. (Our IT director suggested using avatars, which is possibly the only "no" we've issued.)
Q: How much time do I have to complete the 5K?
A: You have basically 5 days to finish. You do not have to complete the entire distance in a single session. You just have to complete the entire distance between 6am on November 25th and 9pm on November 29th.
Q: How far is 5K anyway?
A: 3.1 miles. That's less than a third of the Sligo Creek Trail. 5K is also approximately 6,500-7,000 steps. You could simply challenge yourself to get that many steps while you're Black Friday shopping or enjoying time outside.

Invite your family and friends
This is very much a more the merrier event. Ask your family and friends to run/walk along, especially if you're already planning to see each other after the Thanksgiving holiday. Those who really aren't interested in their own 5K can still participate by sponsoring yours. Win-win.
