| PCC's Anniversary Year Has Begun by Leslie Graham President and CEO, Primary Care Coalition Primary Care Coalition kicked off our 30th Anniversary year on November 10th with a live storytelling show. The event had it all: an official county proclamation in honor of 30 years, remembrances of trailblazing PCC employees, and amazing stories from our staff and partners. It was the perfect way to start an anniversary year, celebrating the community impact we have achieved and looking forward to our next big ideas. |

| Thank you to everyone who was able to join us. It was such a joy to gather in person again! For those who weren’t able to be there, it’s not too late! We will be presenting a special streaming encore via YouTube on Monday, November 28th at 7:30 pm. Some of the stories will give you a sense of the work we do, but the real takeaway is connecting with who we—and our partners—are and why we do this work. Very few of us develop an emotional connection to systems work because it is more removed and analytical by its very nature. Yet all of those systems are made up of people, with motivations and experiences we can all connect to. That is the part of this storytelling show I love so much and why I’m so thrilled we were able to resurrect it this year. |

| | Resources Are Available to Help With Holiday Stress and Depression Thanksgiving kicks off a season of holiday gatherings and festivities that can be anything but joyful for some people. It’s especially difficult for individuals who may be coping with the loss of a loved one, and those who are stressed by financial and family demands or are experiencing mental health issues or addiction. InfoMontgomery offers resources for those who need help, including a 24-hour crisis center. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides a variety of strategies for a safe and healthy holiday season. | |
| | | Join PCC’s Virtual 5K Turkey Trot Alternative If you don’t have time on Thanksgiving Day to take part in a Turkey Trot to burn those extra calories, PCC is offering a fun and convenient alternative – a virtual 5K that you can complete your way and on your own time within a five-day period -- between 6 a.m. on Black Friday, November 25, and 9 p.m. on Giving Tuesday, November 29. You can run or walk, indoors or out, and participate by yourself or in the company of family and friends. Registration is $25 per person, and there are prizes for participants with the most sponsors, the most dollars raised, and the best social media photos. We hope you’ll join in and do something good for yourself and for others. The money raised will support health care for our most vulnerable residents. Register here. |
| | | The Case for Virtual (5K) by Stephanie Narayanan Senior Development Manager, Primary Care Coalition Growing up, my family was super active in the local chapter of a national diabetes nonprofit, JDRF. Every year, we’d show up to staff and participate in the organization’s fall walk-a-thon. There were ridiculously early registration times, and we were never done before early afternoon. But it was a thing we did because type 1 diabetes had touched our family, and we knew it was worth it. There are far easier ways of raising money, but once you’ve established a core audience, these events can be a real moment of community. Those long Saturdays felt almost like family reunions, showing up and seeing other folks whose families had also been involved for years. As powerful as those gatherings can be, there are also important ways they fail—for both attendees and organizations: |
